The Waiting Season

Waiting is one of the hardest things God asks us to do. It tests our faith, exposes our impatience, and often brings to the surface our deepest fears and doubts. Yet Scripture shows us again and again that waiting is not wasted—it’s how God works in us before He works through us.

1. Waiting is a Tool, Not a Punishment

When we’re in a season of waiting—on healing, on a job, on a spouse, on a breakthrough—it’s easy to think God is withholding something from us. But biblically, waiting is not about punishment. It’s about preparation.

“But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” — Isaiah 40:31 (ESV)

2. God Works While We Wait

Even when we feel stuck, God is active. His silence does not mean absence. His timing is not rushed by our anxiety.

“The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him. It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.” — Lamentations 3:25–26 (ESV)

Behind the scenes, God aligns people, places, and opportunities for His perfect plan. Joseph waited in prison. David waited in caves. Abraham waited decades for a son. All saw God’s promises fulfilled—at exactly the right time.

3. Waiting Reveals What We Really Trust

Waiting pulls away every illusion of control. It exposes what we’re leaning on. Are we depending on our plans—or on God’s?

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” — Proverbs 3:5–6 (ESV)

If we’re honest, waiting can show us that we trust outcomes more than we trust God. But faith is choosing to trust Him when there’s no visible sign, no fast answers, and no clear path forward.

4. God Doesn’t Waste Time—He Redeems It

We think waiting is lost time. But God is not bound by our clocks or calendars. What we call delay, He calls development.

“For still the vision awaits its appointed time; it hastens to the end—it will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay.” — Habakkuk 2:3 (ESV)

God’s delays are not denials. Sometimes, He’s waiting for us to grow into the kind of person who can carry the blessing He plans to give.

5. There’s Grace in the Waiting

Waiting is hard, but we’re not alone in it. Jesus understands the tension of trusting God’s timing.

He waited 30 years before stepping into ministry. He waited on His Father’s will in Gethsemane. He even waits now, seated at the right hand of the Father, until the appointed time to return.

“Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way…” — Psalm 37:7 (ESV)

God gives daily grace in the waiting—enough to trust Him for today, even if we don’t know what’s coming tomorrow.

Final Thoughts: Wait With Expectation

Waiting doesn’t mean doing nothing. It means actively trusting. Worship while you wait. Pray while you wait. Obey while you wait. Expect God to move—even if you don’t know when or how.

“I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word I hope.” — Psalm 130:5 (ESV)

The waiting season is often where our faith is forged. Don’t rush through it. Lean into it. God is doing more than you can see.
