The Armor of God — How to Stand Firm

The Armor of God — How to Stand Firm
Main Texts: Ephesians 6:10–18

Paul describes the Christian life as a battle requiring spiritual armor. This armor is not something believers invent; it is God’s provision for standing firm against spiritual opposition.

Notice that Paul repeatedly emphasizes “stand.” The goal is steadfastness, not panic.

Each Piece of the Armor
  1. The Belt of Truth: Truth holds everything together. Believers must know and live according to God’s Word.
  2. The Breastplate of Righteousness: Our righteousness comes through Christ. Living in obedience protects our hearts from compromise.
  3. The Shoes of the Gospel of Peace: Believers stand firmly because they have peace with God through Christ and are prepared to share the Gospel.
  4. The Shield of Faith: Faith extinguishes the “fiery darts” of doubt, fear, accusation, and temptation. Faith trusts God’s promises above circumstances.
  5. The Helmet of Salvation: Salvation guards the mind. Believers remember who they are in Christ and reject thoughts that contradict God’s truth.
  6. The Sword of the Spirit: The Word of God is the believer’s offensive weapon. Jesus used Scripture against temptation, showing us the importance of knowing and applying God’s Word.
  7. Prayer: Paul concludes by urging believers to pray continually. Prayer keeps us dependent on God and spiritually alert.
