Breaking Free from GREED. A Biblical Perspective

Introduction.

Greed is more than just wanting more—it’s the condition of a heart that never has enough. It twists blessings into burdens and possessions into poison. Jesus warned strongly against it:

Luke 12:15 (NIV): “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.”

Part 1:

What Is Greed?

Greed is the excessive desire for wealth or possessions with no regard for the needs of others or obedience to God. It is rooted in idolatry—putting things in the place of God.

Colossians 3:5 (NIV): “Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.”

The Antidote to Greed Is Generosity and Trust

Greed blinds us to God’s goodness. But generosity opens our eyes to His abundance.

2 Corinthians 8:9 (NIV): “For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.”

Let the cross reshape your view of what it means to be truly rich.
