Introduction
This is not just another line in Scripture. These are some of the most powerful words ever spoken: “He is not here, for He has risen.” This is the moment that changes everything. It separates Jesus from every other religious figure in history. He didn’t stay in the grave. He walked out of it.
1. The Resurrection Is Real
Matthew 28:5-6 – But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for He has risen, as He said.”
Jesus had been crucified. Everyone saw it. Roman soldiers confirmed His death. His body was placed in a sealed tomb guarded by soldiers. But on the third day—just as He said—He rose.
This isn’t symbolic. This isn’t spiritual. This is historical and physical. The tomb was literally empty. The resurrection is the foundation of our faith.
2. He Kept His Word
John 2:19 – Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”
Jesus knew what was coming. He predicted His death and resurrection multiple times. When He rose, He didn’t just defy death—He proved His authority over it. If He kept this promise, we can trust every word He’s ever spoken.
3. Victory Over Death
1 Corinthians 15:55-57 – “O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Death used to be the final word. But not anymore. Jesus’ resurrection isn’t just His victory—it’s ours too. Because He lives, death is no longer the end. It’s a doorway. For everyone who belongs to Christ, death has lost its power.
4. Resurrection Power for Today
Romans 8:11 – And if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of His Spirit who lives in you.
The resurrection wasn’t a one-time event—it’s a living power in every believer. The same Spirit that raised Christ is at work in you. That means your failures aren’t final. Your wounds aren’t the end. Your past doesn’t define you. Jesus’ victory is your new reality.
5. A Call to Respond
Matthew 28:7 – Then go quickly and tell His disciples that He has risen from the dead…
The angel told the women two things: Come and see. Go and tell. That’s our pattern too. First, see for yourself that Jesus is alive. Know it. Believe it. Then go and tell someone. The resurrection isn’t private news—it’s world-changing truth.
Conclusion
He is risen. Those three words declare:
– Sin is forgiven.
– Death is defeated.
– Hope is alive.
– Jesus is Lord.
So the real question is: What will you do with that truth? Will you live like He’s still in the grave, or will you walk in the victory of a risen Savior?
Revelation 1:18 – “I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.”
