Keeping Your Integrity When No One is Watching
Main Texts: Psalm 139:1–12; Proverbs 10:9; Luke 16:10; Daniel 6:4
Introduction
It is easy to appear righteous when people are watching.
The real test of character comes when no one is watching.
Who are you when there is no audience?
What do you do when your employer is absent?
What choices do you make when your parents are not around?
What happens when you can cheat and nobody will know?
What do you do with money when there is no accountability?
Christian integrity means remembering that God sees what people cannot see.
Integrity Is Wholeness
Integrity means that your private and public lives agree.
You do not become one person at church and another person elsewhere.
You do not worship God on Sunday while deliberately dishonoring Him during the week.
A person of integrity says:
“I want my entire life to honor God.”
God Sees the Hidden Life
Psalm 139 reminds us that there is nowhere we can go where God’s presence is absent.
God sees:
- Our thoughts.Our motives.
- Our private decisions.
- Our conversations.
- Our hidden actions.
This should not merely frighten us.
It should encourage us.
God sees every act of faithfulness that nobody else notices.
Faithfulness in Small Things
Jesus said:
“He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much.”
Your character is built through small decisions.
How you handle a small amount of money prepares you for greater responsibility.
How you treat one person prepares you for greater influence.
How you respond to minor temptations reveals the condition of your heart.
Daniel’s Integrity
Daniel’s enemies searched for corruption in his life.
They examined his leadership.
They investigated his conduct.
They searched for weaknesses.
But Scripture says they could find no fault in him.
His enemies eventually concluded that the only way to attack Daniel was through his devotion to God.
What a testimony!
Imagine living so faithfully that your enemies cannot find dishonesty in your life.
Biblical Illustration: Joseph
When Potiphar’s wife attempted to tempt Joseph, Joseph refused.
His reason was not merely fear of being caught.
He said:
“How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?”
Joseph understood that even when nobody else knew, God knew.
That is integrity.
Application
- Live for God’s approval rather than human applause.
- Examine your private life regularly.
- Refuse secret compromises.
- Ask God to make your character consistent everywhere.
