Introduction
Beloved, we live in a generation where promises are easily broken, commitments are not kept, and many lack consistency in their words and actions. But as children of God, we are called to live differently. One of the marks of spiritual maturity is reliability – being trustworthy, dependable, and faithful in both small and great things.
Reliability is not just a human virtue; it is rooted in the very nature of God. Our heavenly Father is reliable – He never lies, never fails, and never abandons His promises. If we are to reflect His character, we too must be reliable.
Numbers 23:19 – “God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?”
1. God’s Reliability – The Foundation of Our Faith
The first and greatest example of reliability is God Himself. His Word is sure, His promises are trustworthy, and His nature is unchanging.
Hebrews 10:23 – “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.”
Lamentations 3:22–23 – “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.”
God’s reliability gives us confidence in prayer, assurance of salvation, and hope for tomorrow. Because He is faithful, we too must be faithful.
2. Examples of Reliability in the Bible
- Noah – Reliable in Obedience: Genesis 6:22 – “Noah did everything just as God commanded him.”
- Abraham – Reliable in Faith: Romans 4:20–21 – Abraham did not waver in unbelief but trusted God fully.
- Joseph – Reliable in Integrity: Genesis 39:9 – “How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God?”
- Moses – Reliable as a Leader: Numbers 12:7 – “But this is not true of my servant Moses; he is faithful in all My house.”
- Ruth – Reliable in Loyalty: Ruth 1:16 – “Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God.”
- Daniel – Reliable in Conviction and Prayer: Daniel 6:4 – “They could find no corruption in him, because he was trustworthy and neither corrupt nor negligent.”
- Paul – Reliable in Ministry: 1 Corinthians 4:2 – “Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful.”
- Jesus Christ – The Perfect Example of Reliability: John 17:4 – “I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do.”
3. Why Reliability Matters
- Reliability builds trust.
Proverbs 25:13 – “Like a snow-cooled drink at harvest time is a trustworthy messenger to the one who sends him; he refreshes the spirit of his master.”
2. Reliability opens doors for greater opportunities.
Matthew 25:21 – “Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things.”
3. Reliability reflects Christ’s character to the world.
Matthew 5:16 – “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”
4. Reliability brings eternal reward.
2 Timothy 4:7–8 – “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness.”
4. How to Cultivate Reliability
- Be faithful in little things – Don’t despise small responsibilities. (Luke 16:10)
2. Keep your word – Let your “Yes” be yes and your “No” be no. (Matthew 5:37)
3. Be consistent – Show up on time, complete your tasks, and don’t give excuses.
4. Stay accountable – Allow others to hold you responsible for commitments.
5. Depend on God’s grace – Reliability is built by discipline but strengthened by God’s help. (Philippians 4:13)
Conclusion
Beloved, reliability is not just about being dependable before people – it is about being faithful before God. The world is filled with broken promises, but God is calling us to be different: to be trustworthy, dependable, and faithful in every area of life.
When you are reliable:
- God can trust you with greater assignments.
- People will respect and depend on you.
- Your life will reflect Christ to the world.
Matthew 25:23 – “Well done, good and faithful servant… enter into the joy of your Lord.”
