Starting the Year With God

Starting the Year With God
Key Scriptures:
  • Proverbs 3:5–6
  • Matthew 6:33
  • Psalm 37:5

A new year brings fresh hope, plans, and expectations. For believers, however, the true foundation of a successful year is not careful planning alone, but intentional dependence on God. Scripture reminds us to trust in the Lord with all our hearts and to acknowledge Him in all our ways. When God is placed first, direction naturally follows.

Jesus teaches us in Matthew 6:33 to “seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness”. This means prioritizing God above ambition, comfort, and personal desires. When we begin the year with God at the center, our decisions, attitudes, and goals reflect His will rather than our own impulses.

Committing our year to God also means surrendering control. Psalm 37:5 encourages believers to commit their way to the Lord and trust Him to act. God is faithful to guide those who fully depend on Him.

Reflection:

Starting with God doesn’t guarantee an easy year, but it guarantees His presence and guidance through every season.

Prayer:

Father, I surrender this new year to You. Be the foundation of my plans, the guide of my decisions, and the center of my life. Amen.
