The Deceiver – Part 1: The First Lie

Main Text: Genesis 3:1–5

Theme: Understanding how deception began and how it still operates today.

Introduction:

Deception is Satan’s oldest and most effective tool. The first recorded lie in the Bible wasn’t spoken with rage or malice, but with subtlety and suggestion. In this teaching, we trace the origin of Satan’s deceitful tactics and how they continue to affect humanity today.

I. The Nature of the Serpent (Genesis 3:1):

  • Described as more “subtle” (crafty) than any other beast.
  • Satan chooses the serpent for its characteristics—quiet, calculating, and deceptive.
  • Satan rarely approaches us directly; he works through means that seem harmless.

II. The First Question – Planting Doubt (Genesis 3:1):

  • “Has God indeed said…?” – The enemy questions the command of God.
  • Deception begins by questioning the clarity, intention, and authority of God’s Word.
  • Satan wants us to think God is withholding something good.

III. Twisting the Truth (Genesis 3:4–5):

  • Satan adds partial truths to make lies believable.
  • He promises enlightenment: “You will be like God…”
  • He appeals to pride and desire, not truth and obedience.

IV. The Fallout of Believing a Lie:

  • Broken fellowship with God (Genesis 3:8–10)
  • Shame, fear, and blame become the new reality.
  • One lie opened the door to sin, death, and separation.

Application:

Satan still whispers the same lies: “Did God really say that?” “Is God really good?” “You won’t surely die…” Recognizing the source of these questions is crucial to standing in truth.

Reflection Questions:

1. Have you ever questioned God’s Word in a moment of temptation?
2. What subtle lies has the enemy whispered in your ears recently?
3. How can you stay grounded in truth?

This Week’s Activity: “Truth Check”

  • Write down one area where you’ve been doubting God’s Word.
  • Find three scriptures that speak truth into that area.
  • Declare them out loud each day this week.

Prayer:

“Lord, help me to recognize the enemy’s voice and reject every lie. Fill me with Your truth and teach me to stand on Your Word. May I never doubt Your goodness or intentions. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

  1. Author sir, my question is
Did Satan choose his character after the sin he committed or God made angels that way that they get to choose for themselves

    1. God Created Angels with Free Will

God created angels, like humans, with free will—the ability to choose to love and obey Him or to rebel.

      Biblical Basis:

In Isaiah 14:12–15 and Ezekiel 28:12–17, we see descriptions of Lucifer (interpreted as Satan) who was created perfect and blameless until pride was found in him.

Ezekiel 28:15 – “You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created, till unrighteousness was found in you.”
God did not create Satan evil.

Satan (Lucifer) chose rebellion out of pride, ambition, and desire for self-exaltation.

      2. Satan’s Sin Was a Choice

Lucifer’s fall resulted from a deliberate decision to rebel against God’s authority.

Isaiah 14:13-14 lists five “I will” statements revealing his self-centered motives:

  2. Fill me with truth and make me stand on Ur word alone

    1. The word of God is an evidence of truth that should live in us day by day.. David said In psalm 119:105 Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and light for my path .NLT ..We can only survive when we are guided with the truth ..God bless 🙏
