What Is the Second Coming?
The Second Coming is distinct from Christ’s first coming, where He came in humility, born in a manger, and died on the cross for the sins of humanity. His second coming will be visible, glorious, and powerful (Matthew 24:30; Revelation 1:7). It is the blessed hope of believers (Titus 2:13) and a foundational truth of the Christian faith.
Biblical Promises of His Return
The promise of Christ’s return is mentioned throughout the New Testament. Jesus Himself said:
“I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” – John 14:3
Angels confirmed it at His ascension:
“This same Jesus…will come back in the same way you have seen Him go into heaven.” – Acts 1:11
The apostles taught it repeatedly, encouraging the Church to remain watchful and faithful.
Signs Preceding His Return
Jesus outlined several signs that would precede His return (Matthew 24; Luke 21):
- Increase in wars, famines, and natural disasters
- Widespread deception and false prophets
- Moral decay and lawlessness
- The global preaching of the Gospel
- The rise of the Antichrist and great tribulation
While we are not to set dates (Matthew 24:36), we are to recognize the signs and stay spiritually awake.

Purpose of the Second Coming
At His return, Jesus will:
- Judge the nations and individuals (Matthew 25:31–46)
- Defeat the Antichrist and satanic forces (Revelation 19:11–21)
- Establish His millennial kingdom on earth (Revelation 20:1–6)
- Fulfill the promises made to Israel
- Usher in the eternal state for believers — a new heaven and new earth (Revelation 21)
How Should We Live in Light of His Coming?
The reality of Christ’s return should not lead to fear but to faithfulness. Scripture exhorts believers to:
- Be watchful and prayerful (Mark 13:33)
- Live in holiness and readiness (1 Thessalonians 5:23)
- Encourage one another with this hope (1 Thessalonians 4:18)
- Proclaim the Gospel to all nations (Matthew 24:14)
Final Thoughts
The Second Coming of Christ is not a myth or distant fantasy—it is a certain and glorious hope. Just as He came once, He will come again. The question is not if, but when, and more importantly, are you ready?
Let every believer echo the words of Revelation 22:20:
“Even so, come, Lord Jesus!”
Halleluyah 🙌🙌🙌
Amen 🙏
