True Commitment – A Teaching for Workers

1. What Is True Commitment?

Commitment is not about feelings—it’s about resolve. It’s a conscious decision to stay loyal and consistent, especially when it’s inconvenient. In ministry, commitment means showing up, doing the work, staying faithful, and putting God’s purpose above personal comfort.

Luke 9:62 (NIV): “Jesus replied, ‘No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.’”

2. Why True Commitment Matters
A. God Requires It

Romans 12:1 (NIV): “…offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.”

B. Ministry Depends on It

1 Corinthians 15:58 (NIV): “…stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.”

C. People Are Watching You

Matthew 5:16 (NIV): “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

3. What True Commitment Looks Like
A. Consistency Over Time

Galatians 6:9 (NIV): “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

B. Showing Up When It’s Hard

2 Timothy 4:2 (NIV): “Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season…”

C. Sacrifice

Luke 14:27 (NIV): “And whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.”

4. Signs of Shallow Commitment
  • Only working when being watched
  • Making excuses instead of showing up
  • Getting easily offended and walking away
  • Wanting position but not responsibility

Proverbs 20:6 (NIV): “Many claim to have unfailing love, but a faithful person who can find?”

5. How to Grow in True Commitment
A. Check Your Motive

Colossians 3:23-24 (NIV): “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters…”

B. Build Discipline, Not Just Emotion

1 Corinthians 9:27 (NIV): “…I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified.”

C. Stay Connected to God

John 15:5 (NIV): “…If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”

6. Final Charge

Philippians 3:14 (NIV): “I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”

Stay focused. Don’t be distracted. Finish strong. You’re not just working for a church—you’re serving the King.

Optional Prayer to End Session

Lord, help us be faithful workers. Help us stay committed when it’s tough, quiet when it’s tempting to complain, and humble when we’re recognized. Give us the heart of a servant and the endurance of a soldier. Let us not grow weary. Let us finish well. In Jesus’ name, amen.
