Understanding True Service in the Kingdom
Text: Matthew 20:26–28; James 2:17
In the Kingdom of God, greatness is not defined by status, power, or position, it is defined by service. Jesus completely redefined what it means to be great. While the world pursues recognition, God honors humility and service.
Faith is not merely what you believe, it is what you live. A faith that does not express itself in service is incomplete. James makes it clear: faith without works is dead.
True service is not about performance, it is about purpose. It is not about being seen, it is about being useful in God’s hands.
Service in the Kingdom flows from:
- Love for God
- Compassion for people
- Obedience to God’s instruction
When you truly understand service, you stop asking, “Who will serve me?” and begin to ask, “Whom can I serve?”
Jesus Himself is our perfect example. Though He was Lord, He chose to serve. He washed feet, healed the sick, fed the hungry, and ultimately gave His life.
This shows us that:
- Service is not beneath you
- Service is your calling
Biblical Illustration
In John 13, Jesus washed the disciples’ feet, a task reserved for the lowest servant. After doing this, He said, “I have given you an example.”
If Jesus could serve, no believer is exempt.
