Theme Scripture:
“And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him, and said unto him, The LORD is with thee, thou mighty man of valour.” – Judges 6:12 (KJV)
Introduction: The Call to Rise
In every generation, God seeks men of valor—men who will rise in faith, courage, and righteousness to take their place in His divine agenda. These are not necessarily men of physical might or societal status, but men whose hearts are surrendered to God, who will dare to believe, obey, and act on His Word. Gideon, a timid man hiding from the Midianites, was called a “mighty man of valor” by the Angel of the Lord. This title was not based on his past or present, but on what God saw in him and destined him to become.
Who is a Man of Valor?
- A man of courage (Joshua 1:9)
- A man of integrity and truth (Proverbs 20:7)
- A man who walks by faith, not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7)
- A man of responsibility and action (James 1:22)
- A man submitted to God’s will (Romans 12:1-2)
Biblical Examples of Men of Valor
Gideon – Judges 6:11–16
Despite his fear and feelings of inadequacy, Gideon answered God’s call and led Israel to victory. God doesn’t call the qualified—He qualifies the called.
David – 1 Samuel 17:45–47
David was a young shepherd, but his confidence in God made him a giant slayer. He stood up when others cowered.
Joseph – Genesis 39:7–12
In a foreign land, Joseph stood for righteousness, resisting temptation and choosing integrity over pleasure.
Nehemiah – Nehemiah 4:14
Nehemiah encouraged the people not to fear but to remember the Lord and fight for their families and faith.
Stephen – Acts 7:55–60
Even in the face of death, Stephen stood firm in his witness, full of the Holy Spirit and faith.
Why Men Must Arise Today
- To lead their families in righteousness (Ephesians 6:4)
- To contend for the faith and defend truth (Jude 1:3)
- To stand as light in a dark world (Matthew 5:14-16)
- To disciple the next generation (2 Timothy 2:2)
- To be vessels of revival and reform (Isaiah 6:8)
The Enemies to Conquer
- Fear and insecurity (2 Timothy 1:7)
- Lust and immorality (1 Corinthians 6:18)
- Complacency and spiritual laziness (Romans 13:11–12)
- Conformity to worldly culture (Romans 12:2)
- Lack of identity and purpose (Ephesians 2:10)
Arise in the Power of the Spirit
The strength of a man of valor does not lie in the arm of flesh but in the Spirit of God.
“Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.” – Zechariah 4:6
- Be filled with the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 5:18)
- Renew our minds through the Word (Romans 12:2)
- Submit to God’s leadership and purpose (Proverbs 3:5–6)
- Be men of prayer and intercession (1 Timothy 2:8)
- Walk in unity and accountability with other men (Proverbs 27:17)
Call to Action
God is saying again to the men of this generation: “Arise, Oh Ye Men of Valor!” No more hiding. No more excuses. The Kingdom needs you. Your family needs you. Your generation needs you. Like Isaiah, say, “Here am I; send me.” (Isaiah 6:8)
