Developing Your Gifts Through Faithful Stewardship
Text: Matthew 25:14–30; Proverbs 22:29; Ecclesiastes 9:10
Introduction
Possessing a gift is not enough.
Gifts must be developed.
Potential without development rarely reaches impact.
Many people pray for greater opportunities while neglecting the opportunities they already have.
The Principle of Stewardship
God expects growth.
The Parable of the Talents teaches that God evaluates how we manage what He entrusts to us.
The servants who multiplied their talents were commended.
The servant who buried his talent was rebuked.
Developing Your Gift Requires Effort
Even spiritual gifts require discipline.
Development includes:
- Learning
- Study your area of gifting.
- Practice
- Skill grows through repetition.
- Correction
- Accept instruction and feedback.
- Patience
- Growth takes time.
Biblical Illustration: David
Before David became king, he developed skills in obscurity.
He leard:
- Courage
- Leadership
- Worship
- Dependence on God
The battlefield with Goliath was public.
The preparation happened privately.
The Problem With Impatience
Many people desire visibility before maturity.
God often develops character before expanding influence.
Deeper Insight
Your gift may open doors, but your character determines how long you remain there.
Application
- Invest in personal growth.
- Develop discipline.
- Learn continuously.
- Remain teachable.
Shalom
