God Calls Us to Release the Past
Many believers struggle not because God has not moved forward, but because they are still living in yesterday. The past has a way of shaping our thoughts, emotions, and decisions if we are not careful. God never intended His children to be prisoners of former seasons.
The Lord speaks clearly through the prophet Isaiah:
“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing; now it springs up, do you not perceive it?” — Isaiah 43:18–19
God is not saying the past never happened; He is saying it should no longer control you. When we dwell on the past, we miss what God is doing now.

Driving while constantly looking in the rearview mirror is dangerous. The mirror is meant for reference, not direction. In the same way, the past can teach us lessons, but it was never meant to lead us. If we keep staring backward, we will miss the road ahead and risk crashing spiritually.
Paul understood this truth:
“Forgetting what is behind and reaching forward to what is ahead…” — Philippians 3:13
Letting go of the past is an act of trust — trusting that God’s future is greater than what has already been.
Application
- Identify what you’re still holding onto
- Ask God for grace to release it
- Step forward intentionally
