The Fruit of Patience, Kindness, and Goodness
Main Texts: Ephesians 4:32; Colossians 3:12–13; Romans 12:21
Introduction
The next three aspects of spiritual fruit become especially evident in our relationships with others.
Many people appear spiritual when worshiping in church. However, true character is revealed in daily interactions with family, coworkers, neighbors, and fellow believers.
God desires not only transformed hearts but transformed relationships.
Patience, kindness, and goodness reveal whether Christ is truly ruling within us.
The Fruit of Patience (Long-Suffering)
What Is Patience?
Patience is the ability to endure difficulties, delays, and disappointments without losing faith, becoming bitter, or retaliating.
Patience is one of the clearest marks of spiritual maturity because immature people demand immediate results.
Mature believers trust God’s timing.
Why Patience Is Necessary
Life includes:
- Delays
- Waiting seasons
- Difficult people
- Unexpected setbacks
Without patience, believers become frustrated and discouraged.
God’s Example of Patience
God demonstrates extraordinary patience toward humanity.
Despite repeated rebellion, God continually extends mercy and opportunities for repentance.
If God is patient with us, we must learn patience toward others.
Patience in Relationships
Patience enables us to:
- Forgive repeatedly
- Endure misunderstandings
- Help others grow
- Remain calm during conflict
The fruit of Kindness
Kindness Reflects God’s Heart
Kindness is love expressed through action.
It is compassion made visible.
Kindness often appears in small acts that significantly impact others.
Examples include:
- Encouraging words
- Practical help
- Listening attentively
- Showing concern
- Offering support
Jesus’ Example
Jesus consistently demonstrated kindness.
He touched lepers whom society rejected.
He welcomed children.
He comforted the brokenhearted.
His kindness revealed God’s love.
Why Kindness Matters
People often remember acts of kindness more than impressive speeches.
Kindness opens doors for ministry.
It softens hearts and reflects Christ’s compassion.
The Fruit of Goodness
What Is Goodness?
Goodness is moral excellence expressed through righteous actions.
Goodness influences both character and conduct.
A good person seeks what is right even when it is difficult.
Goodness Requires Integrity
Goodness means:
- Being honest when deception would benefit you.
- Remaining ethical when compromise seems easier.
- Doing right when nobody is watching.
- Goodness Influences Society
Throughout history, believers have established:
- Schools
- Hospitals
- Orphanages
- Charitable ministries
These acts of goodness flow from hearts transformed by God.
Biblical Illustration
The Good Samaritan encountered a wounded stranger.
While others ignored the need, he stopped, cared, sacrificed, and served.
His actions demonstrated patience, kindness, and goodness.
Application
- Practice patience with difficult people.
- Perform intentional acts of kindness.
- Pursue integrity in every area of life.
- Reflect God’s goodness daily.
Shalom!
