Wake Up
“Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”
— Ephesians 5:14
INTRODUCTION: THE ALARM WE KEEP SNOOZING
Most of us know what it’s like to hear an alarm and hit snooze. Spiritually, many Christians are doing the same thing. We still go to church. We still know the verses. But something is asleep.
Paul is speaking to believers when he says, “Wake up, sleeper.” That means it is possible to belong to Christ and still be spiritually drowsy.
POINT 1: SLEEPING CHRISTIANS LOOK ALIVE BUT LACK POWER
“You have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead. Wake up and strengthen what remains.” — Revelation 3:1–2
You can sing loudly but pray little. You can know doctrine but lack devotion. Like a phone stuck in airplane mode, everything looks fine, but there is no connection.
POINT 2: SLEEP MAKES YOU COMFORTABLE WITH WHAT SHOULD DISTURB YOU
“Let us not sleep, as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:6
Samson slept while his strength was taken. Spiritual sleep dulls conviction. Sin stops feeling serious.
POINT 3: GOD’S VOICE IS THE ALARM
“Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts.” — Hebrews 3:15
Jonah slept during the storm while unbelievers prayed. Sometimes the world is more alert than the church.
HOW TO WAKE UP
- Admit you are drowsy.
“Search me, O God, and know my heart.” — Psalm 139:23 - Walk back into the light.
“Whoever lives by the truth comes into the light.” — John 3:21 - Move even when you don’t feel like it.
“Return to your first love.” — Revelation 2:4–5 - Remember what is at stake.
“The night is nearly over; the day is almost here.” — Romans 13:12
CLOSING
This is a wake-up call. Not tomorrow. Today.
“Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”
