Christlike Love in Marriage
Marriage is one of God’s greatest gifts, yet it is also one of the greatest tests of character, patience, and love. Many enter marriage expecting romance to sustain the relationship, but Scripture teaches that marriage is sustained not by emotion alone, but by sacrificial, Christlike love. In a world where marriage is often treated as temporary or disposable, God presents it as a sacred covenant designed to reflect Christ’s love for the Church.
“Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her.”— Ephesians 5:25
This is not a shallow, self-seeking love. It is a love that serves, forgives, endures, and gives.
Biblical Teaching
God designed marriage to be a picture of Christ and the Church.
“For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.”— Ephesians 5:31–32
Love in marriage is patient and kind.
“Love is patient, love is kind… it keeps no record of wrongs.”— 1 Corinthians 13:4–5
Wives are called to respect and honor, and husbands to love sacrificially.
“Each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.”— Ephesians 5:33
Illustration
A strong marriage is like a bridge supported by two pillars—commitment and sacrifice. When either is missing, the bridge weakens. When both are present, the relationship stands firm through storms.
