Fasting — Humbling Ourselves Before God

Fasting — Humbling Ourselves Before God

Fasting is often misunderstood, yet it is a powerful biblical discipline. Fasting is choosing to deny physical comfort in order to focus spiritually. It is an act of humility and dependence on God.

Jesus said: “When you fast…”— Matthew 6:16

Fasting reminds us that God is our true source.

“Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.” — Matthew 4:4

Just as lowering the volume of background noise helps us hear a voice more clearly, fasting quiets the distractions of the flesh so we can hear God more clearly.

Biblical fasting is connected to repentance and renewal.

“Return to Me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping.” — Joel 2:12

Fasting is not about earning God’s favor; it is about drawing closer to Him.

Application
  • Fast with purpose, not pressure
  • Combine fasting with prayer and Scripture
  • Ask God to reveal what distracts you
  • Fasting does not weaken faith — it sharpens it.
