Healing From Past Pain and Emotional Wounds

Healing From Past Pain and Emotional Wounds

Not all burdens from the past come from sin. Some come from wounds inflicted by others — rejection, betrayal, abuse, loss, or disappointment. These pains, if not healed, can shape how we see God and ourselves.

The psalmist assures us:

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” — Psalm 34:18

God is not distant from pain; He draws near to it.

“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” — Psalm 147:3

A physical wound left untreated can become infected. In the same way, emotional wounds ignored can grow into bitterness, anger, or fear. Healing begins when we allow God to touch what hurts instead of hiding it.

Jesus extends this invitation:

“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28

Letting go of past pain does not mean pretending it did not hurt; it means trusting God enough to heal it.

Application
  • Acknowledge hidden pain
  • Invite God into the healing process
  • Release bitterness intentionally
