Introduction: Perspective in the Pain
We live in a world full of chaos—loss, sickness, struggle, disappointment. Sometimes it feels like we’re drowning in suffering. But Scripture doesn’t pretend suffering isn’t real—it tells us that in Christ, suffering isn’t final.
Paul, writing to the Romans, says something staggering:
“Our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.”
That’s not denial. That’s not escapism. That’s clarity. That’s hope. Paul’s saying: Whatever you’re facing now? It can’t even be put on the same scale as what’s coming.
Today, I want to walk us through what this “future glory” means—and why it changes how we live right now.
I. Present Suffering Is Real—but Temporary
Paul doesn’t minimize suffering. He lived through it:
- Beaten, shipwrecked, imprisoned.
- Rejected, mocked, hungry.
- Eventually, executed for his faith.
So when Paul says “present sufferings,” he’s not talking theory. He’s lived it. And we have too. Some of you are in the middle of suffering right now.
But here’s the key: Suffering has an expiration date.
2 Corinthians 4:17 says:
“…our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.”
Suffering is part of the story—but it’s not the whole story.
II. Future Glory Is Not Just Around You—It’s In You
Romans 8:18 doesn’t say the glory will be revealed to us. It says it will be revealed in us.
This is huge.
Heaven isn’t just about harps and clouds. It’s not just being somewhere else. It’s about being someone new. God isn’t just fixing the world around you—He’s transforming the person within you.
Philippians 3:21 — “He will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.”
III. All Creation Is Waiting for This
Paul goes on in Romans 8 (verses 19–22) to say all creation is groaning, waiting for God’s children to be revealed. It means this: your glory isn’t just personal—it’s cosmic.
Creation is waiting for you to be made whole. For glory to show up in your life. Why? Because when God completes His work in you, it’s the signal that everything broken is about to be made right.
IV. Hope That Anchors Us Now
Romans 8:24 — “For in this hope we were saved.”
We aren’t saved just to escape hell. We are saved into a living hope—a future glory that reshapes our present mindset.
Hope isn’t wishful thinking. Biblical hope is anchored in certainty. If God raised Jesus from the dead, your future is secure.
V. What Does This Mean for Us Today?
- Live with perspective.
Don’t measure life by comfort now—measure it by what’s coming. - Hold pain with hope.
You might be groaning today. That’s okay. But keep your eyes up. Glory is coming. - Fix your focus on Jesus.
Hebrews 12:2 — “Fixing our eyes on Jesus… For the joy set before him, he endured the cross…” - Don’t waste your waiting.
Let this season shape your soul. Glory isn’t just ahead of you—it’s already being formed in you.
Conclusion: Glory Is on the Way
One day, God will wipe every tear from your eyes.
One day, your body will be raised in power.
One day, you will shine with the glory of the risen Christ.
And when that day comes, every pain, every loss, every unanswered prayer will fade in the light of His glory.
“Our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.”
That’s the promise. That’s the future. That’s the glory.
So don’t give up. Look ahead. Hold on. Glory is on the way.
