The Call to Holiness

The Call to Holiness

Text: 1 Peter 1:15–16; Hebrews 12:14

Holiness is the foundation of the Christian life. It is not an advanced level of Christianity, it is the starting point. The moment you are saved, you are called into a life that reflects the nature of God.

God does not merely suggest holiness, He commands it. Why? Because holiness is His nature. You cannot claim relationship with a holy God while living an unholy life. Christianity is not just about going to heaven; it is about becoming like Christ on earth.

In today’s world, holiness is often misunderstood. Some see it as legalism, others as religious extremism. But true holiness is neither. Holiness is not about outward rules alone, it is about inward transformation that produces outward righteousness.

Holiness means:

  • You think differently
  • You desire differently
  • You live differently

It is the evidence that Christ truly lives in you.

Many believers try to separate salvation from holiness, but they are inseparable. Salvation introduces you to Christ; holiness makes you resemble Him.

Holiness is also progressive. You may not become perfect overnight, but there must be consistent growth. If there is no change, then something is wrong at the root.

Biblical Illustration

Joseph (Genesis 39) stands as a powerful example. In a private moment of temptation, he refused sin, not because people were watching, but because God was watching. His statement reveals his heart: “How can I sin against God?”

This shows that holiness is:

  • God-consciousness
  • Not people-consciousness

Joseph valued his relationship with God more than temporary pleasure.

Deeper Insight

Holiness is sustained by:

  • The Word of God (John 17:17)
  • The fear of God (Proverbs 8:13)
  • The love of God (2 Corinthians 5:14)
Application
  • Examine your life daily
  • Remove anything that weakens your spiritual life
  • Pursue God intentionally, not casually.

Shalom .
